Mrs. Ann Bartels
2nd Grade
Ann serves as a second-grade teacher at HCS. She earned her bachelor’s degree in history and elementary education from Western Maryland College, now McDaniel college, in 1994. Later, she earned her master’s degree from McDaniel College in curriculum and instruction in 1999. Ann taught for 13 years in Carroll County Public Schools as a third-grade teacher and later a second-grade teacher. She served as a math resource for her fellow teachers due to the many in-services and courses she took in instructing students in mathematics.
Ann moved to Pennsylvania in 2007 and homeschooled her two boys and later her two daughters until 2021 when she returned to the classroom here at HCS. She has had experience through the years in teaching in co-ops and assisting her children in cyber school education.
Ann and her family have attended the Church of the Living Christ since they moved to Perry County in 2007. She has served for about 15 years in the children’s ministry as a leader in the Wednesday evening Kid’s Bible Club program. Most of those years have been spent working with the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten aged children.
In the classroom, Ann enjoys using a variety of manipulatives and visuals to aid in her instruction of mathematics to her students. She desires her students to be successful in mastering mathematical concepts, but also to enjoy learning math. When Ann came to HCS, she shared that her least favorite class to teach was science but due to the use of BJU curriculum and their hands-on approach to learning, Ann has discovered a joy in teaching science concepts to her students and watching them learn as they conduct experiments as scientists and design and build as engineers.
Ann is thankful for the Lord growing her over the years between her public school teaching and her return to the classroom here at HCS. She is grateful to once again have the opportunity to use the talents that the Lord has blessed her with to serve the families of Perry County in growing their children academically and spiritually.
